On August 31, Houston Baptist University will kick off their first game of the season and their first game as a team. Houston Baptist is very excited to add football to their athletics program this year. Their first official season will kick off at home in Huskies Stadium on September 6, 2014, but the Huskies will play four home games (in various locations) and three away during this developmental season. HBU hired their first head football coach, Vic Shealy, in April of 2012. Former quarterback at Liberty University, former coach of NAIA National Championship team at Azusa Pacific, and son of and former staff member for football coach Dal Shealy, Coach Vic Shealy is well-prepared to develop a team from the ground up.

In 2014, the Huskies will join the Southland Conference, making them eligible for the Southland Championship and the NCAA Division I FCS Playoffs. This year, they’ll compete against an assortment of D1, D2, and NAIA schools. HBU recently moved to Division I from NAIA in 2007 and is looking forward to moving from the Great West Conference into the Southland.
