Coach Profile

Coach Mike Castellano is wrapping up his second season with the Middle Creek Mustangs, after spending 10 years coaching at Coastal Carolina University and coaching high school football in North Carolina for several years before that. While at Coastal Carolina, Coach Castellano coached two All-Americans, brothers Marrio and Josh Norman, and CCU’s first All-Big South first team pick: Greg Williamson. His high school teams made several playoff appearances.

Coach Castellano earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Catawba College and his master’s degree in education from Delta State University. He spent one year with Delta State as a graduate assistant working with the tight ends and offensive line. Helping the squad to their first-ever conference championship and the national playoff, he later shifted to work with the wide receivers and quarterbacks. He worked for three seasons as a student assistant coach at Catawba.

Born in Somerset, N.J., Coach Castellano played football, baseball and basketball at Delaware Valley High School.

In his first season at Middle Creek High School, Coach Mike Castellano led the Mustangs to an 11-2 record and a conference championship. Middle Creek’s football program went undefeated in conference play (8-0) and advanced to the second round of the 4-AA division (the largest in the state) of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state playoffs. The Mustangs shattered many school records for the team, as well as individual records held by previous players in the program. Middle Creek had eleven players from the 2013 class to go on to play college football.

Since the school opened in 2002, the Mustangs have won four conference championships; of those four, two were back-to-back conference championships in 2011 and 2012. The Mustangs advanced to the quarterfinals in 2011. Coach Castellano’s staff, comprised of many experienced coaches, has been a huge key to the success of the program.

“After my experiences in the college ranks, there was no doubt that CoachComm was the first choice when it came to completely meeting our headset needs as a staff.”

As a staff, Middle Creek’s coaches needed the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently during games. CoachComm’s Connex system is simple and effective. After using CoachComm in the collegiate ranks, Coach Castellano and his staff knew CoachComm was their best option. Coach Castellano says, “After my experiences in the college ranks, there was no doubt that CoachComm was the first choice when it came to completely meeting our headset needs as a staff.” Coaches are able to communicate from the sidelines to their counterparts in the box, and they have the ability to switch from offensive to defensive channels with the press of a button. The set-up takes less than five minutes and they are ready for game time.

Coach Castellano and his team depend on CoachComm solutions for their championship team. Shouldn’t you?
