Coach Profile

Larry Kehres began his 27th season as head football coach at Mount Union in 2012. In his 26 years at the helm of the Purple Raiders he has built one of the most successful programs in college football. His teams have won 22 OAC Championships while posting 20 undefeated regular seasons and claiming 10 NCAA Division III National Championships. Kehres has a career coaching record of 317-24-3 which makes him one of only 11 coaches in college football history to win over 300 games. He has been named AFCA Regional Coach of the Year a record 16 times, AFCA National Coach of the Year eight times, OAC Coach of the Year six times and in 2008 became just the second-ever NCAA Division III winner of the Liberty Mutual National Coach of the Year award. He also lent his coaching talents to international competition in the summer of 2011 as he served as offensive coordinator for the US National Football team as they won the gold medal in the World Championships in Austria. He also started and coached the Mount Union swim program from 1974-86. In 1985 he was named director of athletics. Kehres is also an associate professor of physical education and values what his students have accomplished in the classroom as well as the football field.

The University of Mount Union has been one of the most dominant forces in Division III college football over the last 20 years. It would only make sense that they would team up with CoachComm to have the best sideline communication system available as well. Mount Union originally began working with CoachComm eight years ago with the Connex headset system. This season they took advantage of the Tempest® FX trade-up program to become an official member of the Tempest family, and they now have access to one of the most dynamic and reliable communications systems on the market.

“The clarity of the system is outstanding!”, said Head Coach Larry Kehres. “Every conversation we have is crystal clear from the opening kickoff until the final whistle.”

“The clarity of the system is outstanding!”

Coach Kehres expects and demands the best from his team on the playing field. There’s no reason he wouldn’t want the same from his headset system. Mount Union wanted a system that was reliable, rugged, and could be used in the most demanding environments of college football. They also wanted a communications system that was unmatched in the marketplace in quality and clarity. They found their gameday solution in Tempest FX and CoachComm.
