Coaches wearing CoachComm football headsets
  • What things can potentially interfere with my headset communications during a game?
WIFI routers, sideline replay equipment, Bluetooth™ on phone near radio pack, wireless PA mics, wireless referee mics, wireless scoreboards, etc.
  • How do I position my external directional antenna for best results?
Whether you have a one or two antenna system, you should always point one or both of the antennas towards the 50 yard line inside the coaches box. Never point them in different direction. Both should be aimed at the 50 yard line.
  • Why can others hear me, but I can’t hear them or vice versa?
Check volume level on the belt pack. Check to see of your talk button is on. Swap out the headset to see if that corrects the problem. If so you have a defective headset.
  • Can I use any headset with the Cobalt system?
Only Cobalt compatible "electret" headsets will work properly with the Cobalt system.
  • Will Cobalt work in a large stadium?
Yes. Cobalt has been used in some of the largest college and NFL stadiums in the country.
  • Can I add a coach to my Cobalt system?
Yes! Simply give us a call and we'll help you get another coach added for a minimal cost.
  • I have a question or an issue with my system. How do I get help?
Contact CoachComm at customer.service@coachcomm.com or call us (800) 749-2761.
  • Is there a quick start guide for Cobalt?
Yes. Click here to find everything you need for your Cobalt system.
  • How do I change a radio pack ID?
Please call in to Customer Service (800) 749-2761 for guidance on your first attempt. There are several steps to accomplish ID changes and one missed step can impact radio performance.
  • Why do I have to set my radio packs to Home and Away when I power them up?
If your opponent is using Cobalt or any other 900MHz CoachComm product, setting band operating perimeters allows the two systems in the press box to work better together.
  • How many coaches can Cobalt support?
The Cobalt system can accomodate an unlimited number of users (i.e. as many as 9 coaches in full duplex plus an unlimited number of coaches communicating in a listen-only mode, if necessary).
  • How many separate channels (conversations) can coexist on Cobalt?
    Two (offense and defense).
  • If the primary master goes down or the battery is being replaced, can another unit take over as the master?"
No. The master beltpack must be manually designated within the menu of the beltpack and only one master can be set up per system.
  • Will the system continue to work as expected, other than losing connected ports, if the master goes offline?
No. The system requires the master beltpack to be on for the rest of the system to operate.
  • Does it require a base station in the press box?
No. Cobalt does not require a base station and uses pack-to-pack communication.
  • How long is the battery life?
    10 hours.
  • Is the battery removable and rechargeable in the charger without the beltpack?
    Yes.
  • Will Cobalt coexist with Wi-Fi?
Yes. The Cobalt system operates in the 900 MHz, which is not affected by Wi-Fi.
  • Will Cobalt work in a large stadium?
Yes. Cobalt has been used in some of the largest college and NFL stadiums in the country.
  • Does Cobalt work well in the rain?
Cobalt's rugged construction is water resistant and proven to withstand the rain and elements. The beltpack is also worn in a holster adding an additional layer of protection.
  • Is Cobalt compatible with player communications?
Unfortunately no. If you're interested in player communications (coach-to-player), we recommend the Cobalt PLUS system.
  • Is the Cobalt system compatible with the Cobalt PLUS system?
No. These are different products; however, you can contact us and take advantage of any trade-in or upgrade offers available to upgrade to the Cobalt PLUS system!
  • How do we send in our equipment for reconditioning?
Contact Customer Service by emailing customer.service@coachcomm.com or by calling (800) 749-2761. You’ll be issued a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number and asked to complete a Service Request Form (SRF). We ask that you securely and carefully pack your equipment in its original shipping box or other similar container before shipping to prevent damage.
  • Why do we need to recondition our headset system?
The wear and tear of a single football season can be extremely tough on your headset system. Because your headsets are a valuable investment for your team, it is important that you properly care for your headsets during the season as well as leading up to the season. We recommend annual maintenance (reconditioning) for headset systems prior to the season so as to ensure your system is game-day ready! We’ve provided some information below to help detail what is involved in sending your headsets in for reconditioning.
  • How do we send in our equipment for reconditioning?

  • How long will it take to get my headset system back?
From the time of receipt, it takes an average of 10 business days during our non-peak season to have your equipment ready. Equipment under warranty that is received by CoachComm between August 1 and October 31 by Wednesday of game week, will be repaired and returned to you in time for your next game.
  • How much does reconditioning cost?
If your equipment is under warranty, there will be no charge for reconditioning. If your equipment does not fall under warranty, our shop has a flat rate fee of $115.00 for headsets that come in with BeltPacks or other system gear. For headsets that arrive separate from a system, the following flat rate charges apply: Sabre/Edge: $40 each Telex/Sennheiser: $50 each SmartBoom Pro: $50 each Costs for additional material and shipping also will be added to your final bill.

The Cobalt PLUS system can accommodate an unlimited number of users (i.e. as many as 19 coaches in full duplex or 18 coaches plus an unlimited number of coaches communicating in a shared or listen-only mode if necessary).
  • What does it mean to have a coach's beltpack in shared mode?
Coaches operating in this mode are sharing a talk path and can talk one at a time. Given the high number of coaches the Cobalt PLUS system can support, this mode is typically only necessary for extremely large coaching staffs that are looking to have additional support staff on headsets.
  • How many separate channels (conversations) can coexist on Cobalt PLUS?
Up to six total conversations can coexist on a system (three offense and/or three defense). Access to these conversations can be customized on a coach-by-coach basis.
  • Can the talk button be set to momentary on the beltpack?
The talk button can be used in a momentary method by pressing and holding the talk button while speaking. Upon release, the talk button will not latch or stay active.
  • Will the system continue to work as expected if the master beltpack goes offline?
No, the system requires the master beltpack to be on for the rest of the system to operate.
